Accommodation for studying at Institute of the Pacific United New Zealand
Our partner university, Institute of the Pacific United New Zealand (IPU), offers campus accommodation and homestays. You can also decide to stay in a flat or apartment in town. You can indicate your preferred accommodation option in the application form.
On-campus accommodation: halls of residence
Local and international students live together in the on-campus Halls of Residence. There are 10 halls of residence on site, with the choice of a small or large room. Each hall has 45-50 rooms. All rooms are subject to availability. You cannot reserve a particular hall or room, but IPU New Zealand will try to allocate your choice wherever possible.
The residential fee includes three meals per day, seven days a week, provided in IPU’s dining hall. Use of common rooms, kitchen, laundry and recycling station is included as well as bike and car parking
Living on campus is a great way to make friends. It’s convenient too, with a supermarket, pharmacy and restaurants only a five-minute walk away. You can find a shop and a bar at the on-campus Junior Common Room. There’s overnight campus security.
- Small private room (7 m2): approximately NZ$ 5000 per semester (four months)
- Large private room (11 m2): approximately NZ$ 5330 per semester (four months)
+ A NZ$ 500 bond (refundable) and NZ$250 service fee
Note! If you’re only living on campus for part of the year (4 months, 8 months etc.), you should inform the Institute of the Pacific United New Zealand of how long you plan to stay, so that you will be invoiced for the appropriate amount. The accommodation invoice must be paid by the invoice due date (before arrival). International students often pay the accommodation and tuition fees at the same time, so that they can use the receipt to show the Immigration for the living cost requirement for visas.
The fee includes three meals per day. Breakfast and dinner will be provided by the host family and lunch will be served at campus Dining Hall.
Homestay fee: approximately NZ$ 5660 per semester.
Finding accommodation independently
You can choose to live in Palmerston North and find your accommodation by yourself. Average rent per month is approximately NZ$ 430, not including any other expenses such as electricity or internet. The estimated rent is based on sharing the apartment with two other persons.
