Rosa Lång made the best decision of her life when she decided to do her exchange semester in Bangkok at Kasetsart University. How did studying in Asia impact her life and help her get the job of her dreams?

Former student Rosa Lång studied at Kasetsart University

Can you please tell our readers a short background of yourself?

My name is Rosa Lång and I come from Finland. I live in Paris at the moment and working in an international construction group’s headquarters as a lawyer. I studied law at the University of Turku and I also studied international law at the National University of Singapore. I also spent six months in Bangkok studying economics at Kasetsart University.

What were the reasons why you ended up studying at Kasetsart University? What were the highlights of your studies?

Back then in 2006, there was no company like Asia Exchange. My university had only a couple of exchange positions so I needed to arrange everything myself. I knew I wanted to go to Asia. I wanted to experience something totally different and explore new cultures. I checked my options and Kasetsart got my attention due to its very good reputation. I contacted the university and I was very lucky because my contact professor was a huge fan of Finland. So, he helped me through the whole application process.

At Kasetsart, I wanted to study economics instead of law. Although I ended up being a lawyer, I believe it was a good choice to study economics because it widened my way of seeing things.

Highlights? Hmm, definitely the many exercises and seminars we made together with the local students! Also, to see how local people studied and approached problem-solving situations in Asia was very enriching.

How did your time as an exchange student help you with your career?

It was the first step on the path I’m still on. Without this exchange experience, I’m sure I wouldn’t have had the courage nor the will to apply to my LLM program in Singapore. I wouldn’t have succeeded in an international career. It was definitely a stepping stone to the place I am now: working in an international company with a multi-international team in my dream city, Paris.

Why is it important to explore the world?

I’ve always loved the following quote by Harun Yahya: “I always wonder why birds stay in the same place when they can fly anywhere on the earth“.  Traveling opens up a whole new world with endless of opportunities. You meet interesting people and see breathtaking places. For me, exploring the world has been a way to get to know myself.

So, do you have anything else you want to say to our readers?

After your exchange semester you might end up being a totally different person than the one you were before. If you do decide to go, enjoy every second of it and have faith in the path you have chosen.

Unlike Rosa, you won’t need to organize your studies in Bangkok all by yourself. Find out how we can help you secure your study place there by clicking on the link below:
