”Asia is probably the most dynamic continent in the world and economically it presents endless opportunities. The center of gravity is moving towards the East.”
– Alexander Stubb, former Prime Minister of Finland
The Asian miracle
Asia has been fast reaching and surpassing the Western countries on the world’s economic stage. Since 1960, the economic growth has been faster than in any other region of the world. Especially the eastern half, comprising of China, Hong Kong, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, the Philippines, Singapore, Taiwan and Thailand, have performed extremely well. Especially the Four Tigers – Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan – have shown growth rates that can only be described as miraculous. By the 21st century their quality of life can easily rival the wealthiest Western states.
China began transforming the global economic order since its reforms in 1970, and has undergone exceptional growth in the last decades. Not long into the future China is expected to surpass the United States as the world’s largest economy. In fact, it has already done so in terms of purchasing power. While everybody have their eyes locked on China, the Indonesian economy is growing at notable speed as well. The fourth most populous country in the world is attracting global investments and certainly improving its position as a global economic powerhouse.
Continent of the future
Asia is fast becoming the continent of the future. Knowledge of Asian languages, cultures and economies is an undeniable asset on the competitive job market of today’s world. Not only that, Asia harbors a diverse, rich and deep cultural heritage as well as awe-inspiring landscapes, which continue to fascinate travelers and expats from all around the world.
For these reasons, we believe that studying abroad in Asia should be available to as many as possible. Students gaining experience of destinations which will continue to have a culturally, politically and economically significant role in the future will influence and enrich their personal and professional lives in countless ways.
