Asia Exchange’s partner university in South Korea is Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) in Seoul. The HUFS International Summer Session (ISS) is organized every summer from mid-July to mid-August.

Hankuk University of Foreign Studies (HUFS) has been continuously ranked as the best international university in Korea. The ranking encompasses the areas of exchange student ratio and satisfaction, curriculum and teaching staff, and international cooperation and networks. HUFS was also ranked 3rd in the world in the category of Language Education in the QS World University Rankings in 2013.

Founded just after the Korean War in 1954, HUFS has strived for reconstruction, development, internationalization and peace-building since its establishment. These qualities have come to define HUFS as the most international university in Korea, with an extensive network of governmental bodies and organizations both in Korea and abroad.

Courses and studying

The summer school is particularly well suited for students interested in Korean language and culture. Courses are also offered in the areas of performing arts, culture, economy and business, Asian politics, contemporary society and international relations. Courses such as Human Rights in North Korea, Korean Food Class and Korean Cinema Class have been popular in the past. The program includes several interesting excursions.

Fees for the summer school

The summer school at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies costs 1790 EUR (European students) or 2000 USD (non-European students). The price includes the tuition fee for two (2) courses and the field trip fee. This is more affordable than HUFS’s regular price of 2300 USD (approximately 2050 EUR) for the summer school. You can check the regular prices on the summer school’s website. The application fee is 75 EUR (or 97 USD for non-Europeans).

In addition to the study place, you’ll benefit from AE’s services and receive an AE Guide. The study materials are either provided free-of-charge or can be acquired very affordably.

Applying to the HUFS summer school

It’s easy to apply to the summer program at Hankuk University of Foreign Studies. You’ll get a confirmation from Asia Exchange within a week of applying. After that you can start preparing for the upcoming study abroad period.

The International Summer Session at HUFS, offered every summer since its establishment in 2003, provides a unique opportunity to all students who want to deepen their understanding of Korean and East Asian societies and the sources of their current trends. The summer program is truly international: exchange students coming from several different countries study side by side with Korean students.

The summer school is open to currently enrolled undergraduate and graduate students, as well as to independent scholars interested in the field of Korean and Asian Studies. Applicants should preferably have completed at least one semester at an institution of higher education. Students with an associate degree are eligible.
