Prince of Songkla University [back to top]
Prince of Songkla University (PSU) is a public, research-driven university that was founded in 1967. It was the first university in Southern Thailand, harnessed to raise general education standards in the region and to support regional industry and development. Today, PSU is a modern and highly international university that takes pride in its origins as a patron of the local culture, education and environment.
PSU is constantly ranked within the top 5 of almost 200 Thai universities. For example, Webometrics ranked PSU 1st in Thailand and 2nd in South East Asia in 2011. Exchange students at PSU have been very satisfied with the academically rigorous and challenging course curriculum there.
PSU has five different campuses and, in total, around 35 000 students. AE students study at the Phuket campus which is the most international of the five, with about 3 500 international students.
The lush campus area in the Kathu district, in the middle of the island of Phuket, is quiet and populated mostly by locals. Students are able to enjoy the authentic atmosphere of Kathu while still being within easy reach of busier areas, such as Patong Beach and Phuket Town.

Examples of courses which have been popular among international students: International Business, International Economics, Strategic Management, Principles of Marketing, Human Resources Management, Social Psychology, and History and Thai Society. We encourage study abroad students to choose courses from the 3rd or 4th year.
Students can choose up to 6 courses per semester. Most exchange students choose 4-5 courses. One completed course at PSU is worth 4 credits which most often translates into 5-6 ECTS (European Credit Transfer and Accumulation System) credits or 3-4 US credits. It's possible to accomplish up to 35 ECTS points per semester depending on the course selections you make. Find out more under study credits.
The majority of the students who go on exchange via AE are from Nordic and German speaking countries but students from other countries are also eligible and have applied. In addition, local students take part in the same courses as the exchange students.
Study hard, and learn as much as you can both culturally and academically! Always remember to make time for putting that cultural knowledge to use. Travel, grow and live in the moment. Nothing could be more important than all of these.
The world has an interesting way of giving great experiences to the ones who are passionate about their dreams and want to live up to them. Thanks to the International Office at my home university and thanks to Asia Exchange for making this possible! Asia keeps calling me back!
- Miia (Finland), studied abroad in Phuket
Phuket turned out to be an excellent study abroad destination and Thailand a fascinating country to live in. There is plenty to do but also serene, calm places in the wild, when you crave for some alone time. My preconceptions of Phuket as a mere holiday destination started to crumble from the first day onwards.

To whom is the program intended for? [back to top]
The study abroad program in Phuket is ideal for students who want to get to know Thailand and Asia while living on the famous paradise island of Phuket. The students who participate in the program wish to combine a challenging academic program, exotic free time activities and unforgettable experiences during their study abroad semester. The aim of the program is to broaden students’ knowledge of Asia in an international and inspiring environment.
Students who have taken part in the program previously have praised the stunning marine environment, the friendly international atmosphere, the inexpensive prices at the destination, and the numerous free time activities. Asia Exchange has also received overwhelmingly positive feedback on all the courses taken at the Phuket campus. A visit to a village which was damaged by a tsunami has also been mentioned often as one of the most memorable moments of the entire semesters.
Most students who take part in the program are students of business, technology, art, social sciences, political science and tourism. There are also students from other fields of study who can complement their degree with minor studies from other faculties. You can ask your home institution about credit transfers.
The minimum requirements are 18 years of age, completed upper secondary education (e.g. high school) and sufficient language proficiency to understand lectures given in English.

In addition to the study place you will receive AE's support services, an AE Guide, an AE Student Card (student discounts), an Orientation Day and an Ice-Breaking event of the first weekend of the semester*.
*If AE staff is on-site at the destination
Most often the tuition fees at Asian universities are more expensive for free movers finding a study place on their own. Unlike other free movers, non-native English speakers going abroad via AE are not required to take a TOEFL English language proficiency test, which costs approximately 185 $. Please also take into account that the cost of living in Asia is very low.
Exchange students completing two semesters
If students take part in two semesters, they will be given a discount of 100 EUR from the second semester's tuition fee. The tuition fees for both semesters are paid before the study abroad year begins. Asia Exchange reserves all rights for changes in tuition fees in the future.
