Studies and semesters

Since the establishment in 1986, Siam University has been one of the pioneers in Thailand to offer an MBA program. Throughout the history, Siam University has graduated several thousands of executives to business and government sectors including engineers, bankers, accountants, IT managers, investment bankers, economists, educators etc.

The International Master of Business Administration (IMBA) program utilizes the same curriculum of the original distinguished MBA program, but uses English as the medium of learning throughout the program. Siam University offers 5 specializations (groups) of study. Of these the students are eligible to select their courses to suit their career objective.

The IMBA program is designed to meet the demands of motivated, fast track managers with executive potential, combining a modular course delivery structure together with mobile learning support technologies. The teaching methods develop and stress independent thinking. Students are expected to meet practical and verifiable achievement levels and to add value to their respective businesses.

Siam University IMBA is designed for managers/administrators. The flexible schedule allows professionals to have full-time jobs while earning an MBA, if needed. Courses are offered on weeknights/weekdays and weekends for your convenience. Program includes also company visits and field trips.

Siam University's MBA follows a 15-week trimester system. You can start your studies and accomplishing the degree either in summer, autumn or spring semester. Participants can complete the degree in a minimum of 12 months. Alternatively some participants will complete the coursework in 12-15 months and then take another semester to complete a business project (regular track). Majority completes the degree requirement within 18 months.

We recommend arriving in Bangkok approximately one week before the beginning of the semester so that you will have time to visit Siam University and sign up for the courses you plan to take. It will also give you enough time to make accommodation arrangements.

IMBA degree course outline

IMBA degree at Siam University consists of:

• 10 core courses (obligatory for all the IMBA students)
• 3 elective courses
• 1 business project (thesis / independent study)

Specializations and elective courses

Siam University offers 5 areas of specialization (Groups):

• Marketing Management Group
• Management Information Systems Group
• International Business Management Group
• General Management Group
• Hotel and Tourism Management Group

Groups above include up to 10 elective courses, of which the students need to choose 3 at minimum. 10 core courses are obligatory for all the students.

Before starting the IMBA, some students may need to take the foundation courses at Siam University. These courses are designed for students lacking of bachelor level business studies. In unclear situations, Siam University makes the decision of the requirement for foundation courses.

Fees

Students accomplishing the whole MBA degree

Siam University's IMBA costs approximately 5500 USD (3800 €, 4/2011), depending on your course choices. One semester tuition fee is approximately 1000-1500 USD debending on course choices. When accomplishing the IMBA degree, you pay the tuition fees directly to Siam University before the semester starting days. Asia Exchange's services are free of charge for you.

The cost of Siam University's MBA is very reasonable compared to any other MBA degree around the world. E.g. in Nordic universities an MBA degree costs approximately 20 000 € or more. In Asia there is lots of variation in the tuition fees, but generally the cost is approximately 50 % than e.g. in Nordic countries.

Exchange students participating 1-2 semesters

If you wish to study only 1-2 semesters in the IMBA program as an exchange student (i.e. not accomplishing the whole MBA degree) taking master level courses, the tuition fee per semester is 1290 €. The tuition fee will be paid to Asia Exchange. Asia Exchange will send the exchange students the final invoice for the program fee (1240 €/semester) at least 45 days prior to the start of the study program.

Most often the tuition fees at Asian universities are more expensive for free movers finding a study place on their own. Unlike other free movers, non-native English speakers going via AE are not required to take a TOEFL English language proficiency test which costs approximately 185 $. Please also take into account that costs of living are very low in Asia.

Application

Applying for exchange programs represented by AE is easy and you’ll receive and initial letter of acceptance within a week of sending in your application. You can start to make travel arrangements after receiving your initial acceptance letter. Applications are submitted online with an electronic application form.

Minimum requirements for the applicant:

• IMBA degree applicant needs to have completed undergraduate level degree. Exchange student applicant needs to have an enrolment at an institution of higher education or needs to have completed at least undergraduate level degree.
• Applicant needs to have sufficient level of English skills (however, no TOEFL is needed unless separately requested)

Required documents:

• An official Transcript of records/certificate of accomplished undergraduate level (Bachelor) degree
• (Or if you are applying only to 1-2 semesters as an exchange student, you are not required to have accomplished your undergraduate studies. In this case transcript of records of your current studies is sufficient)
• A copy of the identification page of your passport (please note that your passport must be valid for at least six months after arriving in Thailand)
• Letter of recommendation in English from a representative of your university (e.g. a professor/lecturer) or employer

Sending your application

• Fill out the application form and upload the required documents as attachments here

Please enter your permanent mailing address in the application, so that you will be sure to receive the official acceptance letter before the start of the study program.

We will confirm via email your study place within a week of sending in your application. We will also send you an invoice for the application fee (50 €) with your initial acceptance letter. If you are applying only for one or two semesters as an exchange student (not the whole MBA degree), the final invoice for the program fee (1240/2530 €) will be sent to at least 45 days prior to the start of the study program.

If needed, you can cancel your participation in the program by email, in accordance with the terms and conditions.

You can apply for a visa after receiving the official letter. Acquiring a visa takes about four days, depending on the country it is being issued in. You can find instructions for applying for a visa on our website under: Instructions → Visa.
