Scholarships

A scholarship is an award of financial aid for a student to further education. Scholarships are awarded on various criteria usually reflecting the values and purposes of the donor or founder of the award. There are scholarships and grants for international students who wish to study in Asia.

There is a lot of competition for a limited number of awards but it is worthwhile applying for the ones relevant to you. You should begin your research early as some scholarships require you to apply even a year before your course starts.

If you wish to study abroad for a semester, it is recommended that you firstly approach the educational institution where you are enrolled in. Your home university or college will be able to tell you more about the scholarships they offer and how to apply. Your status as an exchange student is free mover so please not that freemovers might be entitled to different scholarships than students studying abroad through the universities' own agreements and networks.

A number of governmental and non-governmental bodies, including educational charities, provide financial assistance to a diversity of students seeking education overseas. Approaches can also be made to commercial and industrial companies in the fields related to your specialization, e.g. in the business field to commercial companies, in engineering to construction or electronics firms. Note that certain bodies such as banks may specialize in student loans.

Scholarships, grants and student loans could be available from your local government. Enquire with the Ministry of Education within your own country to find out what is available.

A lot of websites list different foundations that give out scholarships. There are even blogs and Facebook pages that list different scholarships. Be active and search for different possibilities online.

In most countries in the world students need to pay tuition to study at university. Tuition fees in Asia are normally much more affordable than in other parts of the world. On top of that Asia Exchange has negotiated discounted tuition fees with the partner universities. Costs of living in Asia are very small compared to e.g. Europe and North America. Also renting an apartment is normally cheaper – even when living with style! However we encourage all students to apply for funding of their studies to cover the costs. Despite all this we encourage students to apply for extra funding.

Here we have gathered different sources where you can find information on how to cover the costs for the tuition fee, traveling and other costs.
